1.The Board adopted this position at the ARL Membership Meeting in Houston, Texas, on May 22. The resolution was prepared in response to the concerns of membership that, as the amount of licensed content has increased, especially through packages of publications, nondisclosure or confidentiality clauses have had a negative impact on effective negotiations.

2.To maintain its position in such circumstances, this role includes managing a diverse range of projects from supporting the Library's increasing digitisation activity and proposition development to implementing fundraising campaigns as well as overseeing the communications, exhibitions and marketing activities of the Library.

4.In addition, the webcast will showcase comments from two reactors to the report: James Neal, Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian, Columbia University Libraries, will offer his perspectives on community level preservation challenges; and Deborah Jakubs, Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs, Duke University Libraries, will discuss aligning preservation activities with institutional and inter-institutional concerns. Participants will have the opportunity to ask the panelists questions at the end of the session.

5.In announcing the Arcadia grant, Dr. Rausing stated, "One of the Harvard University Library's aims is to ensure its position as a premier research institution. We hope our grant to the Library will greatly assist in this aim."
