1.The LIFE Project (Life Cycle Information for e-Literature) is a collaboration between the British Library and UCL (University College London), supported by LIBER (the Association of European Research Libraries), which is developing tools and techniques to enable long-term planning for digital preservation by researchers, librarians, data managers and other information specialists.

2.Sayeed Choudhury, Associate Dean for Library Digital Programs and Hodson Director of the Digital Research and Curation Center at the Sheridan Libraries of Johns Hopkins University, referenced his current work with an NLG project “Digital Archiving of Astronomical Data to Support Publication and Long-term Preservation,” and how it influences work soon to be funded by the NSF Datanet program.

3.In addition, the webcast will showcase comments from two reactors to the report: James Neal, Vice President for Information Services and University Librarian, Columbia University Libraries, will offer his perspectives on community level preservation challenges; and Deborah Jakubs, Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs, Duke University Libraries, will discuss aligning preservation activities with institutional and inter-institutional concerns. Participants will have the opportunity to ask the panelists questions at the end of the session.

5.The building will house low use material including patent specifications, books, serials and newspapers in temperature- and humidity-controlled conditions that meet international standards for archival preservation. In addition, the storage void where the material is kept will be a low oxygen environment to reduce any fire risk to the collection.
