Green Libraries Week – not long to go!（图）

Libraries from all sectors will be taking part in Green Libraries Week 2024,from National Libraries to university libraries to the high street,green activities,education and literacy events will be happening near you.

Green Libraries Week is running from 7 to 13 October this year and the Green Libraries Partnership is working with libraries across the UK to encourage users of all ages to be a part of the campaign theme of‘Every library a green library’and celebrate the work going on in libraries focused on sustainability and green action within their communities.

Activities for 2024 include:

·Climate Change Collections Showcase-Get up close to our collections relating to the climate crisis.These include leaflets and posters created by local activist groups from the 1970s through to the present day,as well as books and maps relating to climate change and its consequences(Edinburgh)

·Energy advice session with Marches Energy Agency-Marches Energy Agency charity is hosting drop-in sessions and carbon awareness workshops about improving energy efficiency and keeping warm and well at home.Part of Green Libraries Week where libraries across Shropshire are taking part to support communities to live in an eco-friendlier way(Shropshire)

·Make Bird Feeders-Children's nature craft event making pinecone or cardboard roll bird feeders,to take home to feed the birds in your garden(Cambridge)

Green Libraries Partnership board member and National Library of Scotland representative Laragh Quinney said:

“The National Library of Scotland is excited to be taking part in Green Libraries Week.We are partnering with CILIPS to host Carbon Literacy for Libraries training that celebrates how every library is a green library and can support its community to be more sustainable.

Our curators are leading a collection showcase of climate related items.And the Library’s Green Team is leading a nature workshop for families to make bird feeders and bug hotels amongst a range of nature crafts.For us Green Libraries Week is chance to explore the climate stories in our collections and promote sustainable action.”

As part of CILIP's green initiatives,the CILIP team represented the Green Libraries Campaign at the London Libraries Conference at the Kensington Conference and Events Centre where the theme for the day was‘Stronger together’.

The London Libraries Conference also touched on topics such as creative health,the Nation’s Adult Reading report by The Reading Agency,navigating AI disruption and various breakout sessions.

Green Libraries Week is closely followed by the second Green Libraries Conference,which takes place at the British Library’s Knowledge Centre in London on 25 November.

The presentations at the conference will include the following topic areas:

·Collaborating to make a difference

·Contributing to Sustainable Development Goals

·Sustainable Collections and Climate Literacy

·Showcasing Sustainable Practice

Early bird ticket sales end on Friday 25 October.

Travel and student bursaries are available to apply for until Friday 11 October.
